I believe that I have found where Robert Patrick was born. He reported 3 different birth years on 3 censuses. In 1900, it figures out to 1856. In 1910, he reports it as 1858 and then in 1920 he reports it as September 1861. When he died his death certificate that he was born 12 Sep 1856. I knew he was from Northern Ireland, but not where. I believed it was Donegal. There was a Robert born to a Thomas baptized Dec 1857. Then I found that he was still living there in 1857. I didn’t have any good matches. I knew there were some Maxwell’s that lived near the area where the Boyds were from. I have found that the Boyds and Lockharts populated the peninsula called Loughros Point to the west of Ardara, Donegal. Well, about 7-8 miles NW of Ardara were some Maxwells. I discovered that Robert Patrick signed as witness for a Lockhart and a Boyd on their naturalization certificates. This led me to believe that he might have known these families more than just because he was married to a Boyd. I searched for a Patrick Maxwell. He always reported his name as Robert Patrick or RP. I found a Patrick Maxwell was born to a Thomas Maxwell in this place I was looking at. Townland: Lackagh, Civil Parish: Inishkeel, County Donegal. The record is a baptisim record as of 11 September 1855. The year does not match, but the date is so close. I found a marriage record for Thomas. He married a Margaret McElwee (McIlwee?) 14 Dec 1854 and his father was listed as Patrick.
Now the circumstantial evidence is starting to pile up. I didn’t purchase all the records, but I found what are likely siblings born in the same place to Thomas in the years following Robert Patrick. George, William James, Margaret Jane and Mary. R P named his first son James after his father in law. His second was Thomas John, after his father, third and fourth were William and George which happen to be the names of his brothers if my theory is correct.
So, the proof is not incontrovertible, but I believe that it is indeed his birthplace.
I have not yet found birth or death dates for them, but his father is Thomas, and grandfather Patrick, his mother is Margaret McElwee and his parents were married 14 Dec 1854.
